About Us

Greetings.

My name is Marilyn Martyn

I am a teacher and librarian now specialising in teaching literacy and numeracy skills to both children and adults as a private tutor.

I have had thirty plus years teaching experience in primary and secondary schools as well as working in the publishing industry.

I know first hand the effect poor literacy skills have on  learning and  self esteem for so  many people.

I have not met one child who does not want to learn to read or who at least knows it is something they need to learn. Many cover up the pain they feel by misbehaving in the classroom.

I have worked with many  children who find the task difficult and frustrating.

I have established Phonics for Kids to support parents of primary school age children.

It is during the primary school years that basic literacy and numeracy skills must be established.

Why do many children experience reading difficulties?

In my experience  there is not one approach to teaching reading and writing that is best for every  child. But becoming literate takes time and effort.

Many children learn to read and write easily.

Many find it difficult because they do not receive the encouragement and support and instruction needed in the early years of schooling.

The classroom teacher is unable to do this because there simply isn’t the time for individualised attention.

Parents are their child’s first teacher and ideally educating a child  is a partnership between parents and teachers.

Phonics for Kids is designed to support parents and caregivers so they can confidently contribute to their  child’s reading and writing development.

Phonics for Kids will provide information and ideas and links to sites that will make it fun for you and your child to learn together.

If you would like to contact me I can be reached via email. The address is support@phonicsforkids.net

I will welcome any enquiries.

    Hello Sruthi,
Thank you for your comment. I have updated the blog
and it is now very easy to get a copy of my phonics report.
I invite you to get one.
I do apologise for getting back to you so late.
My ebook outlines most of the beginning phonics needed.
It literally is step by step mastery of the alphabetic system.
    Best wishes,
    Marilyn

This sounds like a wonderful program to help children better their reading skills. I’ve come across an online product that I really like as well. Perhaps it could be helpful for those assisting children with their reading skills as well: http://www.shareasale.com/r.cfm?b=69801&u=504745&m=11396&urllink=&afftrack=
